Gambora — Terms of Use

The app

Gambora is an opening-repertoire trainer for iPhone, published by TheKnack. It draws your repertoire as a map, names every position it recognises, drills what is due on a schedule, and shows the exact move where a game you played left your own book. Every one of those features works on the free plan, without advertising, for as long as the app exists.

Gambora Pro

Gambora Pro is an auto-renewable subscription that removes the free plan's two volume ceilings — 250 moves across your repertoires and 20 imported games. It adds no feature that free users cannot see working, because the whole product is free; Pro is for people whose book outgrows the ceilings.

Gambora Pro is offered at $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year, each with a 7-day free trial. Prices in other territories are set by Apple's equivalents and are shown in the app before you buy.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase.
Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Everything you built stays yours if a subscription lapses. Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked; only the two ceilings come back.

Importing your games

Gambora can fetch your recent games from Lichess or Chess.com using their own public endpoints and the username you type. Those services set their own terms and rate limits, and can change or withdraw those endpoints at any time; if that happens the rest of the app is unaffected. Gambora does not log in on your behalf and never asks for a password.

About the opening names and evaluations

Opening names come from the lichess-org/chess-openings data set (CC0 1.0) and are bundled in the app. Gambora contains no chess engine and offers no move evaluation, best-move suggestion or position score: it drills the moves you chose to play. It is a memory tool, not an analysis tool, and it is not a substitute for your own judgement over the board.

Gambora is provided as-is. TheKnack is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on anything the app displays, including a game result.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app.
